how to properly recycle & reuse your clothing.

On my Instagram , a few weeks back, I asked my mutuals what I should write about in my ''fashion-focused, eco-aware" blog! I was met with five great suggestions, and today, 8/11/26, I am writing off of 'reginareazrr' 's suggestion of writing about how upcycling clothing the wrong way causes them to end up in landfills. I think this is super important to write about, because as someone who was born circa 2008, I have been told my whole life "reduce, reuse, recycle!" whether it be on a poster with the green circular triangle with the arrows, trying to be an environmentally conscious Alpha and Omega symbol. or just over and over in the classroom or on TV or on social media. My generation is being failed, because yes, the message is being put out there, but no one is being told how to recycle, how to reuse your clothing. With the sudden surge of DIY culture, there has been a massive influx of how to create things out of other things , such as repurposi...

elle is chewing gum for the eyes.

Image
I do love films. I know that makes me sound pretentious, but honestly I can watch a movie, absolutely adore it, and then look up the reviews to find out that it has a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes and is universally panned. Unpopular opinion, I wasn't a huge fan of The Odyssey . It was good, yes, but... good doesn't imply likable. Anyway, I recently started watching Elle , a prequel tv-show to Legally Blonde;  Elle Woods, universal charmer, has to move from sunny L.A. to dreary Seattle due to her father's mishap as a plastic surgeon.  If you know me, I love Legally Blonde. Elle Woods is a genius and if you don't agree, you're misogynistic because she doesn't conform to your standards of intelligence, which I believe is unable to be measured. Elle is a phenomenal character because they made her a nice girl, which we desperately need more of these days; however, I find it quite interesting that Elle is literally the only nice person at Harvard Law, as opposed to her pee...

i'm anti-reseller

I recently started using Depop. By recently I mean yesterday. Ever since starting Luxe Cache I’ve just really to find my personal style, and when I downloaded the holy grail of niche clothes, aka Depop, I was blown away by the amount of FreePeople and other otherwise expensive clothing that I just don’t want to drop a band on. Anyway, I’m saying this point-blank-period, as someone who’s a ‘seller’ on Depop, I am so anti-reseller. I honestly was going to go to my local Goodwill and scope out what I could sell; then I really thought about it and I felt disgusted with myself. I have the privilege of buying overpriced clothing that's underpriced in online marketplaces and I have the nerve to think of going to a thrift store to curate pieces to sell, when its main purpose is to be a place where people buy clothing since everywhere else is so expensive nowadays. And honestly, they have a good idea of going there and buying clothes, as you can in fact find Isabel Marant at the bins. But...

the aesthetic of aesthetics.

Image
If you've been on the internet for a bit, you've definitely heard the adjective-noun combo of "_____ aesthetic". As a 17 year old girl who spent her entire middle school experience in front of a computer due to COVID, this is familiar to me; 'preppy aesthetic', 'cottagecore aesthetic', 'VSCO girl aesthetic'. Or , say, you're Gen-Z. You've probably said in your life, maybe jokingly, 'so aesthetic'. If you're NOT chronically online you most likely have no idea what I'm talking about unless you've been around 'hip' (millenial way of saying chronically online) people.   According to Dictionary.com , the term aesthetic " concerns what is beautiful". According to Merriam-Webster , the term aesthetic  means "a branch of philosophy that deals with the nature of art, beauty & taste". If you're a pessimistic adult who is currently seeing the decline in media literacy, perhaps you are think...

5 affordable eco-friendly stores (online) !!!

So i'm writing another article.  This one's about affordable eco-friendly stores, because I know people who buy fast fashion aren't doing it to harm the planet on purpose; they're doing it because 1. it's extremely pricey to buy any kind of clothing nowadays and 2.  because they're unaware of how unethical fast fashion is.  So here are 5 affordable eco-friendly stores! I'll make more posts like these in the future as I continue to research. 1. Quince - Quince's mission purpose is to make sustainable fashion the standard. Known for their affordable silks and cashmere (ooh's and ahh's), they sell clothes for women, men, children, & babies. I definitely wanna try and review. 2. Yes Friends - Yes Friends offers clothing for both men & women, and gives off a relaxed, Gen-Z vibe through their website & marketing. Their mission is "Yes Friends exists to make ethical clothing affordable and transform the fashion industry. Small goals....

different kinds of undertones

Image
Undertones are defined as "the underlying, foundational color that influences the hue and temperature of skin". Think of it like paint; if you are intending to create green and you use more yellow than blue, you'll end up with a chartreuse or olive-green color, as yellow is a warm color. However, if you use more blue than yellow, you'll end up with a forest green which is deeper, darker, and cooler, because blue is a cool color. If you're unfamiliar with warm/cool colors or need a refresher: red, orange, yellow are considered 'warm colors' on the color wheel because they are reminiscent of heat. They are considered energetic because in the natural world the sight of warm colors is extremely contrasting. The 'cool colors' on the color wheel are greens, blues, and purples, as they evoke nature and a relaxing, down-to-earth feeling. When using paint, secondary colors' warmness/coolness are often able to manipulated, such as with the green example ...

introducing color-cache

Have you ever seen the videos on TikTok of the shops in Korea that give a color analysis? Well, I'm creating a new series (???) of posts, named Color-Cache, were I go over different features (ex: eye color, hair color, skin tone and undertones) and what colors will make said features pop!  I'm not just gonna research, I'm gonna ask real people with specific features (ex: blue eyes, black curly hair, olive undertones) what they believe makes them stand out. Honestly, this'll help me as well, because I only really wear pink & blue and I'm trying to try new things!!! so in the comments below, if you want to leave some suggestions for me to start off with, that'd be awesome!!! xoxo, Louisa
